Glass Design FAQs

Is frameless glass railing safe?

Yes when built with 10-12 mm toughened glass anchored in a proper bottom channel at 3.5 ft height. Toughened glass crumbles safe, never shards.

What glass thickness is used for railings?

10 mm for standard balconies, 12 mm for frameless or high-exposure installs. We use certified toughened glass only.

SS frame or aluminium frame for glass railing?

SS 304 gives a metallic brushed/mirror look; powder-coated aluminium gives coloured matte finishes and never rusts. Both are safe - pick by elevation style.

Glass railing designs — frameless, top-rail and what each costs

Glass railings keep the view and make a balcony feel bigger. In Dehradun and Mussoorie they also face wind, rain and fog, so the system matters as much as the look. Here is how the designs in the gallery differ and what to specify.

The three glass railing systems

  • Top-rail glass + SS posts: SS 304 posts with glass clamps and a handrail on top — the sturdiest and most economical.
  • Frameless bottom-channel: 12 mm toughened glass in a floor U-channel, no posts — the cleanest look, higher cost.
  • Semi-frameless standoff: glass held on SS standoff pins from the slab edge — modern, good for cantilevered balconies.

Glass thickness and safety

We use 10 mm toughened glass for post-supported systems and 12 mm for frameless spans, with polished edges and a 3.5 ft finished height. Laminated glass is available where a panel must stay in place even if cracked. Panels are sized at the site visit so each one sits in its own clamps with expansion gaps.

Cost bands

Glass + SS railing in Dehradun runs ₹1,100–₹1,800 per sq ft including glass, SS 304 hardware and installation; frameless is at the upper end. See the glass railing price page for a per-system breakdown, or compare with aluminium glass railings if you want a coloured frame.
