Staircase Design FAQs

What height should a staircase railing be?

34-38 inches (about 3-3.2 ft) from the stair nosing is the standard; we build 3.5 ft as a safe default with a continuous handrail across flights.

Which is better for stairs - SS or glass railing?

SS gives a grip-friendly, durable rail at lower cost; glass gives a premium open look. For homes with kids or seniors, SS with a round handrail is the practical pick.

Can you do curved or spiral staircase railings?

Yes. We CNC-bend handrails to your stair radius from on-site templates. Curved and spiral work is quoted after measurement.

Design guide

Staircase railing designs — straight, curved, spiral and how they are priced

Staircase railings are measured and priced per running foot because the run follows the stair, not the wall. The designs above range from plain vertical SS to glass and wood-combo — this guide explains what changes the price and what suits which staircase.

By staircase type

  • Straight flight: any design works; vertical baluster or glass are the most popular in Dehradun duplexes.
  • Dog-leg / L-shaped: laser-cut panel railing looks continuous around the landing; SS + wood handrail for a warmer interior.
  • Curved or spiral: handrail must be rolled to the radius — pipe designs suit best; glass needs bent or faceted panels at higher cost.

Rate per running foot

Staircase railing starts from about ₹550 per running foot for plain SS 304 vertical designs. Glass infill, wood handrails, laser-cut panels and curved runs move the rate up. Full figures are on the railing rate page.

Handrail height and grip

We build stair handrails at 900 mm from the nosing line with a 38–50 mm round or flat-oval grip, continuous around landings so a hand never has to let go. Balusters are spaced ~100 mm for child safety. See the staircase railing service for fabrication details.
