Types of Stainless Steel Chamber Covers
Recessed / Tile Insert Cover
Tray-style cover for tile, marble or granite. We prefer to make the cover first, then mark and cut the flooring against the finished frame so the final fit stays neat and accurate.
Plain SS Cover
Plain stainless steel cover with frame for utility areas where a tile-insert finish is not required.
Inspection Cover
Removable access cover for drainage, water, sewer or service inspection points, made to the required size.
Drain Chamber Cover
For drainage and utility areas. SS 304 is our preferred grade where water exposure is regular; SS 202 can be discussed for lower-exposure, budget-sensitive use.
Custom / Oversize Construction
We normally use one heavy-duty base construction rather than making a light version just to reduce price. For larger or oversize covers, extra internal support can be added where the size and use require it.
Bigger covers get support bars inside

These three covers were ready to go to site. The two larger trays have stainless steel support bars welded inside, so the stone or tile on top does not sag. The smaller one did not need them.
We decide this by size and use — you do not pay for extra bars on a small cover.

SS 304 is our first preference for chamber covers because it keeps a cleaner finish and offers better corrosion resistance in normal use. SS 202 can be offered where budget is tighter. Finish
Matte / brushed and gloss / mirror finishes are available. For floor covers we usually prefer matte because everyday scratches are less noticeable; gloss gives a brighter, more reflective look.

In Our Workshop
Measured and cut accurately, TIG/argon welded, ground and finished in-house. We avoid leaving large gaps and filling them with excess weld; the fit is prepared properly before welding.
Common & Custom Sizes
12×12 in is one of the most commonly requested sizes, but we fabricate custom dimensions to suit the actual requirement. Our quoted size normally refers to the outer frame size.

Cutting and squaring the frame
Stainless steel sections are cut to the confirmed outer size and checked for square before joining.

Clamped flat on the welding table
The frame is clamped on our welding table with the corner plates in place, so it stays square while it is joined.

TIG / argon welding
Joints are TIG/argon welded after a close fit-up — we do not leave big gaps and fill them with extra weld.

Tray fitted and checked
The inner tray is fitted inside the frame and checked against the measurement before the final welding.

Grinding and satin finishing
Welds are ground and the surface is finished with a satin wheel. Quality is checked at every stage, not only at the end.

Final check before dispatch
Finish and fit are checked and the cover is cleaned before it leaves the workshop.

The outer frame sits flush with the floor and the tray carries its own cut pieces of the same stone.
Stainless steel chamber covers — sizing, fitting and how we build them
A stainless steel chamber cover (also called an SS manhole or inspection cover) closes a drainage, water, septic or service opening while keeping the finished floor neat. We normally recommend SS 304 for its cleaner long-term appearance compared with mild steel, while SS 202 can be offered as a lower-cost option when appropriate. Recessed (tile insert) chamber cover
For tile or marble work, we make the cover first and use the finished frame as the reference for the final flooring cut. The outer frame is set flush with the surrounding floor, then the inner tray receives its own accurately cut tile or marble piece. Keeping the fit close helps the finished cover look neat instead of loose or uneven.
How we measure the size
Our quoted chamber-cover size normally refers to the outer frame size. The removable inner tray is slightly smaller because the border and working clearance take up space. If you need a specific clear inner opening, tell us that requirement and we calculate the outer size accordingly. 12×12 in is common, but custom sizes are made to order and pricing is calculated from the actual dimensions — including inch-by-inch sizes rather than rounding every job up to the next full foot.
How we build for real use
Normal home, terrace and utility use: we keep the same strong base construction rather than making the product unnecessarily light just to reduce the quotation.
Parking and vehicle areas: the same heavy-duty base approach is used when the cover is properly installed; very large sizes can receive additional internal support where required.
Wet and drainage areas: SS 304 is our preferred grade. SS 202 is available as a budget option, but harsh acids and chemicals should be avoided on either finish. SS 202 vs SS 304 guide.
What decides the price
Indicative SS 304 rates are shown in the size table above (charged per sq ft of cover area). The final quote depends on the actual outer size, material grade (SS 304 or SS 202), plain or tile-insert type and any extra support for oversize covers. We do not blindly apply one fixed square-foot rate to every size. The quotation is based on the actual dimensions, material grade, frame/tray construction and any additional support required. Smaller covers can have a higher effective per-square-foot cost, while larger sizes may work out lower per square foot because the border and fabrication work do not increase in the same proportion as the centre area.
